UNCOMMON TUBERCULOSIS OF PANCREAS

OP Kapoor

Hon. Visiting Physician, Jaslok Hospital and Bombay Hospital, Mumbai, Ex. Hon. Prof. of Medicine, Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital, Mumbai 400 008.

During my last lecture tour of USA, American doctors were surprised to see my presentation of tuberculosis of pancreas which is more or less unheard of in the literature. In Bombay Hospital, since CT scan imaging started, four patients of proved tuberculous granuloma of the pancreas have been identified by Talwar.[1] [2]

The above collection of unusual sites of tuberculosis in BHJ is worth being proud of. It only stresses the point, that tuberculosis can involve any organ in the body. It should teach a lesson to aL the doctors that in our country think of "Tuberculosis" in every differential diagnosis.

Now that the anti-Koch's therapy is so effec. tive, and the treatment can be completed in six to nine months, cure is very easy.

However, in two of the above four patients, laparotomy had to be done to drain the granulomatous abscess.
